Latest Fad Just Silly

In our never ending quest to be on top (I like it on top) of the latest trends in today's society we've stumbled upon (literally) the latest fad sweeping the nation.

In an effort to help our readers get a foot in the door on this craze we're going to explain how it's caught on...step by step.  And we'll be simple and polite.  After all we wouldn't want to step on any toes.

It seems the Ministry of Silly Walks, a sketch from 60s comedy troupe Monty Python, is making a resurgence.  Except this time around, people are taking it seriously.  From the runways of Paris...

To the theatres of Broadway...

...the movement has taken on a life of it's own.  It has even influenced the world of sports. From the fairway...

To the fairy way...

Originator of the silly walk, John Cleese (no, not the dead, gay one) remarked recently, "It really is quite remarkable that this has caught on over 40 years after I first invented it.  What a complete bunch of dolts people are to take this seriously."  Mr. Cleese was never known for his subtlty.

But it is being taken seriously, by, for example, the WONKS (Women Of Nasty Kicks Society) who have gone so far as to organize competitive silly walk races or "silly runs".

Here, WONKS champion Ira N. Fast practices her technique at home...

...which oddly resembles seeing a mouse in her kitchen...or a nasty acid trip.

And here Ira competes for the Silly Runs Cup.

Her technique would appear to give her a leg up on her competition.

Ever since I started wearing one high heeled shoe, I've been walking funny, too.

Weird.

moooooog: Black patent, or open-toed?

Funny post - the last part with the WONKS race reminded me of the "Village Idiot" competitions.

00dozo: I loved Monty Python. The pic at the end made me think of the Twit Olympics.

May be a new effort to avoid stepping in the pile of crap that awaits around the next corner. Have you noticed that runway models actually place one foot across the other while walking throwing their hips damned near out of socket?

nonamedufus said...

Don: Yeah, I don't know why they don't trip themselves more often. It's an art. They'd make good hockey players throwing their hips out like that!

I remember that skit very well. Better than whatever it was that my wife asked to remember before I went to work this morning, in fact. That's sad, but your post was funny, so I feel great!

Mike: Loaf of bread and a quart of milk? Does your brain hurt?

The Kobe one is my favorite, I wonder if the photographer was trying for that.

"Walk this way"

"If I could walk that way I'd need an operation"

Chris: That one's hilarious, isn't it. Purely unintentional I imagine but caught on film forever.

nonamedufus said...

idifficult: Yep, I'm sure if you tried you'd throw your back out. I know I would.

To Nonamedufus regarding Moooooog: you KNOW it's open-toed.

The Silly Walks is by far a Cleese Classic! It's right up there with the Spam skit.

Deb: re: Moooooog's shoes yeah, I don't know why I even bothered to ask.

Yeah, the Spam skit's a classic. I've posted it here a couple of times.

Those models can look forward to broken ankles if they keep that up.
Shonky knees too, in their future.

why do people catch on to these silly fads? What the heck goes through their minds?
