30 Days of Photos - #30 - The Devil

Welcome to the last (yahoo!!!) day of 30 Days of Photos, where 18 bloggers participated in posting a photo a day for 30 days. Here are the other 17 idiots you can visit one last time (sniff) after you've been here:
ZivaMikeNicky & MikeMoMeleahBryanMariannMalissaNoraLaughing MomTanyaElizabeth00dozoCherylKristen and Katherine
This, my friends is the last day of our little 30 Days of Photos exercise. It's been a long haul. And a challenging one, coming up with a photo each day to match those dastardly daily themes.
And I've saved the best for last. The devil.

My first impulse was to post a picture of Ziva and Mike, the hosts of this hellish little exercise. They really put us through our paces. But getting Ziva from Finland and Mike from Colorado together for a picture, let alone that those two could agree on anything from one day to the next, was easier said than done. So we're going with the next best thing. The devil I live with every fre…

30 Days of Photos - #29 - Lines

Welcome to the second last day of 30 Days of Photos, where 18 bloggers are participating in posting a photo a day for 30 days. Here are the other 17 you can visit after you've been here:

These lines are actually bleachers at the soccer field near our house.
They haven't started to play yet.
But when they do you can bet parents and family members will be lining up to watch.

30 Days of Photos - #28 - Outlier

Welcome to 30 Days of Photos, where 18 bloggers are participating in posting a photo a day for 30 days. Here are the other 17 you can visit after you've been here:

Today's theme is "outlier". One of the definitions of outlier is:

"someonewhostandsapartfromothersofhisorhergroup, asbydifferingactions,beliefs,religiouspractices,etc... Synonyms:outsider,nonconformist,maverick;original, eccentric,bohemian;dissident,dissenter,iconoclast, heretic."

We have a friend who fits this description to a tee. Tee for Terry. Terry runs a restaurant called Hino's. A Japanese restaurant...because Terry Hino is Japanese.

Terry's run his restaurant for close to 30 years. We discovered him about 10 years ago and have visited him about once a month ever since.

We always are offered a place of pride; sitting at the bar overlooking the ki…

30 Days of Photos - # 27 - Nude

Well look at him.

Guess who?

Yeah that's me about 59 years ago.

I took a picture of that picture a couple of days ago.

Hey you didn't want to see a picture of a nude 59 year old man, did you?

Trust me. You don't.

It's appropriate I'm in my birthday suit.

Tomorrow's my birthday!

The big 6-0!

30 Days of Photos - #26 - My Toothbrush

Welcome to 30 Days of Photos, where 18 bloggers are participating in posting a photo a day for 30 days. Here are the other 17 you can visit after you've been here:

I don't know who the hell chose the themes for this little exercise but today's is one of those themes that really left me scratching my head. I mean who the heck wants to see a picture of my toothbrush?
Well, here's a bonus for you guys. Here's a picture of my toothbrush and my wife's. I know. Pretty risque, eh? A photo of two toothbrushes co-habitating in a cup with a tube of toothpaste.
I may have started an internet phenomenon.
It could go viral.

Two toothbrushes, one cup.

30 Days of Photos - #25 The Future

Don't forget to mosey on over to dufus daze for this week's Pause Ponder and Pun caption contest. This week's winner could win a fantastic prize...or not.

Your servant here, he has been told
to say it clear, to say it cold:
It's over, it ain't going
any further
And now the wheels of heaven stop
you feel the devil's riding crop
Get ready for the future:
it is murder

The lyrics are from Leonard Cohen's The Future. I like Leonard Cohen. I love his lyrics. Sometimes they can be a little dark. But, hey, we all have our moments. I hope to be around many more years to enjoy his lyrics. Dark moments now and then notwithstanding.
You see I have cancer. It's a can…

30 Days of Photos - #24 - Crowd

Welcome to 30 Days of Photos, where 18 bloggers are participating in posting a photo a day for 30 days. Here are the other 17 you can visit after you've been here:

I took a bit of a different take on today's theme. I don't get out much and when I do I never really encounter a crowd. So how the heck will I take a picture of one?
So for today's pic I went to my music collection and pulled out a couple of my Crowded House CDs. Do you know them?
Crowded House is an Australian band that started out as Split Enz in the 70s, the brainchild of Neil Finn who hailed from New Zealand. They were most popular in the decade beginning in the mid 80s. Brother Tim also played in the group.
One of my favourite Crowded House songs is Don't Dream It's Over.
Neil and his brother Tim, who performed with both Split Enz and on and off with Crowd…

Well, here are the fish.

The only tale I have is that I took their picture at the supermarket when I was doing the grocery shopping last Friday.

They didn't even smile.

30 Days of Photos - #22 - Portrait

Ha, ha, ha, what a great collection of the week's political cartoons. Where? Over on dufus daze, naturally.

Welcome to 30 Days of Photos. We're in the home stretch with just a week to go. Thank God! (Did I just say that out loud?) So this is where 18 bloggers are participating in posting a photo a day for 30 days. Here are the other 17 you can visit, who are equally happy there's only 7 - aw damn, Cheryl tells me there's 8 - more days, after you've been here:
ZivaMikeNicky & MikeMoMeleahBryanMariannMalissaNoraLaughing MomTanyaElizabeth00dozoCherylKristen and Katherine

A portrait with a twist...of tangerine(s), baby tomato and a banana.
Aw, why so serious?
Just one more week to go.

One morning on my Panama visit I got up early, about 5:30am, and hit the beach with my iPhone camera. I walked east. I wanted to get some shots of the sunrise. I did and the pics were spectacular.
After I had enough pics I turned back to retrace my steps.
Look what I saw in the western sky.
Here's a pic of the moon setting.
Gorgeous.
And look at that lovely, peaceful beach.
You can tell I was the only idiot up at that hour.

30 Days of Photos - #20 - Bird

Welcome to 30 Days of Photos, where... whoa, whoa, whoa, you really want me to go through all of this again? Yeah? Okay. 18 bloggers are participating in posting a photo a day for 30 days. Here are the other 17 you can visit after you've been here:

This is a cockatoo, parrot, bird thingy. He lives in the zoo at El Valle in Panama. He says "Hola" a lot.
I think he thought I was going to give him food. He poked his head through the fence. He must have been disappointed. I only took his picture.

30 Days of Photos - #19 - White

In this instance the light at the end of the tunnel, while white, is not an approaching speeding train. This is the (in)famous Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine Tunnel in Montreal (Hi Nicky and Mike!). On Easter weekend my wife and I were traveling from Victoriaville (which likes to think of itself as the poutine capital of the world) to Montreal (the roads and bridges under construction capital of the world). The bridge travels beneath the main shipping channel of the St. Lawrence River.
It's scary. Tiles have fallen off the tunnel walls. It's always dripping. I have visions of that movie 2012 with John Cusack every time I pass through it.
So in this case. the light at the end …

30 Days of Photos - #18 - Fire

Don't forget to stop by dufus daze for our latest instalment of Pause Ponder and Pun. Katniss Everdeen has nothing on today's edition...

Welcome to 30 Days of Photos, where yadda, yadda, yadda, 18 hijacked hooligans bloggers are being forced unmercifully participating in posting a photo a day for a frakkin' month 30 days. Here are the other 17 suckers you can visit after you've been here:

Okay, I know you guys have missed my little history lessons, so sit back and enjoy.
This is a picture of the Centennial Flame on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. It was built to commemorate Canada's centennial - hence the name - and unveiled in 1967 on, uh, the, like, centennial of our confederation in 1867. The shields of our 10 provinces and two of our …

I think one of my favourite Groucho Marx quotes has got to be, "Time flies like an arrow but fruit flies like a banana." Funny guy, that Groucho.
One of my favourite Rolling Stones songs has got to be Time Is On My Side, an oldy but a goodie from 1964. It was their first U.S. top 10 hit and they performed it on their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show.
But all that aside this theme gave me some trouble and as time ticked away I wracked my brain wondering what the heck I could come with. Seconds away from my deadline, I finally remembered what I had stashed in the bottom drawer of my bedside table. Yep, all the watches I've discarded over the last decade or so.…

If you're a regular follower of my blog you'll know that last month I spent 2 weeks in Panama, mostly golfing and imbibing a Balboa or Corona or two on my brother-in-law's balcony. But there were days we ventured out of the tranquility of the Bijao Beach and Golf complex such as the day we headed out to El Valle to take in the sights and visit the local zoo.
This is the church in El Valle, presumably built many years ago. It has a simplicity yet beauty about it. I'm not a church-goer, but I was attracted to this temple of worship. The majority of Panamanians, by the way, are Catholic.
The church may appear ordinary to a passerby, but to Panamanians in El Valle ordi…

Well, we're into week 3 of our little photo sojourn. The half-way point. Yippee. Only two more weeks to go. So settle back and let's see what's yet to develop.

"Chop your own wood and it will warm you twice." (Henry Ford)
A couple of years ago we had to chop down a huge maple tree in our backyard. It had split and we were worried it might fall on the house in a heavy wind.
The wood from that tree has lasted us several years. We love lighting fires in the fireplace during the col…

Remember Level 42, the British pop-rock, jazz-funk group from the 80s? One of their biggest hits wasSomething About You. Yeah, well, this post isn't about them at all.

It's about the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything. Unless you've been living under a rock - and not that there's anything wrong with that - you'd know that 42 was the answer. Not that anyone knows the question, mind you.
This whole construct is one of the many humorous riffs the late Douglas Adams goes on about in Hitch…

There are many things in life that give me pleasure. #1 of course is my wife. Life with her is a dream. And I'm not sharing my dreams, just so you know. I love golf, as many of you know, music, books and classic TV series on DVD.
When I was in Panama last month we went out to dinner at a Japanese restaurant at the Bijao Hilton Hotel. The kind of restaurant where they cook what you order right in front of you. It's called teppanyaki cuisine and it makes for a fun night out.
This was dessert. A Petit Gateau Chocolate and Ice Cream.
It really was the epitome of pleasure on a plate.

Know what that means?
I fear that there's still 18 more days of this frakkin' meme.

I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round I really love to watch them roll No longer riding on the merry-go-round I just had to let it go (John Lennon)
I gave this bike to my wife for her 50th birthday not too long ago.
It's one of those retro bicycles made by Electra. Kinda cool.
Oops, I just realized that now you have some idea of her age, eh?
Sorry I mis-spoke honey.

Where I live there are lots of golf courses. And this time of year I'm dying to get out on them. I only started golfing a year ago but I love it.
There are almost as many marinas in the area. This one's across the river in Ottawa, Ontario. The other side of the river is Aylmer, Quebec where I live. I'm no sailor but I can identify with this guy. His is the only boat out in the slips of the marina. The rest of the sailboats are still all in storage wrapped in protective industrial strength white plastic...waiting.
